Melt-spun Medium-strength Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene Fiber

News 400

Reasons for recommendation

The melt spinning process is adopted for the first time to prepare medium-strength ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber, with short production flow, high efficiency, energy saving and environmental protection. With its excellent coolness, the fiber can be used to manufacture differentiated home textile products. Its good puncture resistance and cut resistance can shine in the application in protective goods.

Preparative technique

The medium-strength ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber is prepared through melt extrusion of polyethylene by controlling spinning speed and temperature, cooling and solidifying, and super-stretching.

The downstream application guidance

Dyeing: Low temperature dyeing or cold dyeing is advised, with the temperature kept at or below 120° C,ideally between80~100°C; the dyeing solution should be kept neutral to weak acidic to protect the fiber strength and luster.

Weaving: Reduce the weaving speed appropriately to lessen vibration damage to the fiber; ideally, the loom roller speed should be kept between250~400r/min. It is advised to boost the workshop’s humidity levels or install a static electricity elimination equipment to address the

issue of static electricity during the weaving process.

After-finishing: Low temperature drying and heat setting (preferably 60~80℃).The high strength and lightweight nature of the fiber are ensured by adding an anti-static finishing agent in the after-finishing to

remove surface static electricity.

Application of fibers

Clothing textiles:Cut Resistant gloves

Home textiles:Bedding

Industrial textiles:Fishing net/Rope

Q: How melt-spun medium-strength ultra-high molecular weight

polyethylene fiber has developed into civilian uses in addition to industrial ones?

A: This medium-strength, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber is made by melt spinning, which has the advantages of inexpensive equipment investment, low production costs, energy conservation, and environmental preservation.

This method differs from the traditional wet and dry spinning process. There is a chance for this product to be used in the civilian sector because some applications do not call for products with very high strength. The fiber’s coolness can be utilized to make ice silk mats, sports shoes, and other items, and its strength, abrasion resistance, and cut resistance, among other qualities, can completely satisfy the needs of protective gear, enhancing gear, and other civilian products, such as cut-

resistant gloves, reinforcing materials, and ropes.
