Processing Technology

Q: Do you know the mechanism of phosphorus flame retardant?
A:The mechanism of phosphorus flame retardant has three aspects:
(1) Gaseous-phase flame retardant. Phosphorus-containing compounds are
decomposed into micro-molecular free radicals such as ●POz,●PO and ●HPO etc. And such free radicals react with H and OH free radicals generated during the combustion process to realize flame retardant by interrupting the combustion reaction chain;
(2) Condensed-phase flame retardant. Phosphorus-containing compounds
generate phosphoric acid with a boiling point of 300°℃ during the
combustion process, and the phosphoric acid is further dehydrated to
generate metaphosphoric acid and poly-metaphosphoric acid to promote
the dehydration and carbonization of PET polymer chain, and form dense
charcoal layer on the combustion surface to insulate air and hinder heat
transfer, thus realizes flame retardant;
(3) During the combustion process, phosphorus-containing compounds can
generate water, diluting combustible gases and taking away combustionheat, thus enhances the flame retardant effect.
